I founded Octane after running a cloud infrastructure consulting business, where things weren’t adding up.
My clients were switching from virtual machines to containers, which reshaped their businesses: having granular observability tools gave them new insights that simplified processes and boosted revenue. Many of them relied on companies with usage-based pricing like AWS, Datadog, and Slack to implement those insights. The built-in flexibility of these models meant my clients could transform and scale effortlessly, pushing usage-based companies to the top of the SaaS market.
But pricing and billing were stuck in the past. Over and over, I watched inflexible pricing plans, bulky infrastructure, and a lack of data insight drag down my clients’ innovations. Engineers had to implement every iteration, leaving product and finance teams frustrated and developers wasting their skills. It didn’t make sense. Everything else was moving to usage-based. Why not this?
